China Telecom has recently revealed the results of its tender for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) equipment, Sina News reported on August 22. The contract is reportedly valued at between 10 million RMB (US$1.5 million; US$1=6.8 RMB) and 17 million RMB (US$2.5 million). The winners include ZTE, which was rewarded the half of the total contract, followed by Alcatel Shanghai Bell with 20%, while Huawei, AsiaInfo, and Fujian Fujitsu shared the remaining 30%.

In related news, China Unicom and China Telecom have reached an agreement, whereby China Unicom will terminate its development of dual-mode dual-standby CDMA/GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) mobile phones, Sina News reported. This move is regarded as the first step of China Unicom's transfer of CDMA/GSM business to China Telecom, according to the Sina News report. Following the completion of CDMA business transfer, China Telecom is expected to begin pre-paid CDMA services by the end of June 2009.
